Mathematics for educators brings together practical insight into mathematical knowledge and skills for Foundation Phase and Intermediate Phase student teachers and all primary school teachers, as well as those not teaching mathematics as a subject. Written in a clear style and amply illustrated, the book is a comprehensive yet user-friendly guide to mathematics content with a South African focus, informed by problem solving as theoretical framework. The book aims to raise standards of education in primary schools in South Africa and will be an invaluable tool and reference work.

Mariana Naudé is the co-editor of various textbooks published by Van Schaik Publishers, including Teaching Foundation Phase Mathematics: a guide for South African students and teachers, Teaching life skills in the Foundation Phase and Teaching life skills in the Intermediate Phase.

Until his retirement in 2017, Hercules Nieuwoudt was a professor in the Faculty of Education at the Potchefstroom Campus of North West University and was formerly Chair of the subject group Mathematics Education, after being Director of the School of Education. His main interests are Mathematics Education, Statistics Education, Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching, and Powerful Learning Practices in Mathematics Education (particularly through the integration of dynamic ICTs).

Dr Susan Nieuwoudt recently retired as a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics Education in the School for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in the Faculty of Education at the North-West University (Potchefstroom Campus). Her interests cover self-directed learning in mathematics classrooms, the role of problem solving in the teaching and learning of mathematics and integrating assessment into teaching and learning.
